Overview

A potent symbol of a steelworks, blast furnace is a facility to produce hot metal by smelting iron ore.

We demonstrated our enormous capabilities for providing large-scale blast furnaces by construction of No.5 blast furnace at Gwangyang steelworks recently and revamping three blast furnaces at Pohang Steelworks and four at Gwangyang Steelworks. In particular, in June 2013, we successfully carried out the second revamping project for No.1 blast furnace at Gwangyang steelworks, which has the world’s largest capacity with 6,000㎥.

Furthermore, our business region is expanding into all over the world as well. We provided blast furnaces with high productivity and availability with low operating cost to PT.KP in Indonesia, IISCO in India and ESCO in Iran.

Based on our international experience in building blast furnaces, we are evolving into a global player with the best technology in the field of blast furnace engineering.

    India IISCO blast furnace

    The capacity of plant is 2.50 million tons of hot metal in annual. This project is odered by IISCO Steel Co. (SAIL Co.) and won by POSCO E&C consortium with NCC(NafarjunaConstruction Company) which is the POSCO E&C's first project in India.

  • Iran ESCO blast furnace

    Iran ESCO blast furnace

    The capacity of plant is 1.40 million tons of hot metal in annual. This project has been performed to increase the steel making production capacity of Esfahan Steel Company in Iran from 2.60 million tons to 4.00 million tons. And this is the POSCO E&C's first overseas project through competitive bid.

    Korea POSCO Gwangyang No.5 blast furnace

    The capacity of plant is 2.91 million tons of hot metal in annual. And the cooling method of stave type and the high efficiency refractories had been applied to ensure the lifetime of furnace shell as 20 years and more.
