POSCO-Thailand CGL project was aimed at installing a surface-treated steel plate production plant.
The project was carried out in order to respond to the growing demand for automobile industry in Thailand and to defend the Southeast Asian market against the Japanese steel makers’ local production of steel plates for automobiles. Through this project, a continuous galvanizing line (CGL) plant with an annual production capacity of 450,000 tons was installed in Amata (located approximately 140 km to the southeast of Bangkok) of Thailand.
For this project, POSCO E&C supplied the machinery, POSCO DX supplied the EIC facilities, and POSCO Engineering handled the engineering works, electrical installations, and utility supply. POSCO E&C, as a leading company according to the umbrella agreement, played the role as a coordinator and provided overall engineering service and performance guarantee. Following the project completion, semi-finished cold-rolled full hard products were created as steel plates for automobiles or household use, and supplied to customers.
With this, POSCO secured a foundation for entering Southeast Asian automobile and home appliances market.
