KOGAS Jeju LNG Terminal Project

Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS) Jeju LNG Terminal project is a LNG base for stable supply of natural gas on Jeju Island. It was carried out according to the government’s tenth long-term natural gas supply plan and the business agreement concluded with the Jeju Special Self-governing Province in July 2009.

The LNG tanks were aboveground membrane types, the first of its kind in Korea. POSCO E&C successfully delivered the two membrane LNG tanks with a capacity of 45,000 kl and the related auxiliary facilities. The storage tanks were designed in a dual structure of pre-stressed concrete and membrane to fundamentally block the LNG leakage.

In addition, the LNG terminal was developed with the highest level of safety ensured with top grade tank seismic design equivalent to that applied in Korean nuclear power plants to withstand Richter magnitude scale of 6.5.
