POSCO E&C built the Integrated Development Center of Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI). KAI is a facility used for the development of Korean-style combat plane (KF-X) and small-scale civil and armed helicopters (LCH, LAH).
With the gross floor area of approximately 25,000㎡, the development center consists of one basement level and seven ground floors. It is equipped with a research building where various aircraft models are tested and analyzed as well as a test building where high-tech testing equipment is available. Since its foundation in 1999, KAI has been responsible for Korea’s national security and air power by developing basic trainers, advance trainers, multipurpose helicopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles.
It is expanding its business area to aerospace business, such as satellite development, and aircraft maintenance. To help in KAI’s stable business development and expansion, POSCO E&C has constructed the aircraft structure test building, a key facility for aircraft development and test, and the Aerospace Center, which handles satellite development and mass-production. Moreover, we have constructed the aircraft component production and assembly plant and the launch vehicle assembly building.
POSCO E&C will continuously build facilities for KAI’s aircraft development, maintenance, repair, and operation (MRO) business, civil aircraft manufacturing, and satellite and launch vehicle development so as to contribute to the advancement of Korea’s aerospace industry.
