In 2014, POSCO E&C successfully completed the “Noi Bai–Lao Cai Highway” project, a large-scale national intercontinental connection project of Vietnam. It is one of key projects promoted for development of the Mekong River basin by Asian Development Bank (ADB). It was aimed at building a highway connecting between Noi Bai of Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam, and Lao Cai in the border area between Vietnam and China.
This is a large-scale project with the construction cost of USD 1.25 billion of which the total extension measures as much as 264 km. Through this project, the limited transportation capacity of the existing national road was amplified. In addition, the transportation period from Hanoi through Haiphong to Kunming has been reduced to less than one day, creating synergy for activating trade between the neighboring countries.
POSCO E&C was in charge of construction works in three sections. We successfully completed sections A1, A2, and A3 measuring 27 km, 22 km, and 24 km, respectively. We completed the project based on our extensive experiences built in Vietnam, and continue contributing to Vietnam’s economic development. In 2017, we became the runner-up at the 13th Civil Engineering and Construction Technology Awards in the Overseas Civil Works category.
Through continuous implementation of highway construction projects abroad, we showed the world Korea’s excellent construction technologies and enhanced Korea’s prestige in the global market.
